Early in 2008, tradeteam’s parent company, DHL became the first major logistics company worldwide to put its money where its mouth is and to establish concrete CO2 efficiency goals. The group has committed itself to achieve a 30% improvement in carbon dioxide efficiency by 2020.
‘Going Green’ is also a key point on tradeteam’s agenda going forward. Many of tradeteam’s customers have set their own reduction goals and they expect their logistics provider to be an active participant in achieving them.
Each year, tradeteam produces approximately 45,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is the equivalent to sustain a 1% ‘warming blanket’ over an area roughly comparable to the inside of the M25. Of this, diesel is by far the biggest contributory factor. Other areas such as utilities, waste and packaging are also under close scrutiny.
At the beginning of 2008, tradeteam formulated and Environmental strategy. This strategy focuses on a number of key, yet easy to win areas that both reduce carbon and require minimal investment.
The introduction of these initiatives in 2008 led tradeteam to be seen increasingly as ‘best practice’ by parent company DHL. The group is now looking to share some of these ideas across other areas of the business.
Tradeteam is currently on target to achieve a five percent reduction by 2009. Results will be published here as soon as they are collated.
Kevin Lawrence, Network Manager at Tradeteam, discusses the importance of efficiency in transport operations and the technology and logistics behind making it happen.
As with every company involved in the logistics industry, the success of our business relies heavily on how customers rate our service. We are no longer measured on a price point alone; customers want value for money and a high quality, accurate and timely delivery of their supplies.
